In a video interview for Estate Agent Today, property professional Chris Buckler speaks to Christopher May, director of free-to-list portal Residential People.
Alongside asking May for a random fact about himself, Buckler poses some key questions to the chief of the fledgling portal about how it is aiming to help agents.
These include:
- Will the portal take agents' data and sell it back to them?
- How will Joe Public find portals like Residential People?
- If May was an agent, which major portal would he choose and why?
May goes on to tell Buckler that his portal is agent-led and how it is aiming to give income back to agents via a concierge service.
He also explains how the portal is aiming to give key agents 'Class A shares' and 'electronic voting rights', giving them the opportunity to own part of the portal and shape its future.

Residential People is yet another property portal that says it will be of assistance to estate agents but does that mean that buyers and vendors will not be considered first?
I would argue that if buyers and sellers were considered first, then, as Chris suggests, success it all about inventory of stock and ease of access to it.
Therefore, currently, nothing, as yet, offers any competition to Rightmove.
Unless Rightmove addresses it’s extortionate pricing then this may not though be the case forever.
Hi Eddie, buyers and sellers will be at the forefront as we are creating a concierge service whereby we can get the experts (the agents ) to do what they are good at, and play a more important role in the consumers search. From personal experience also at the forefront front of the consumers mind or any sensible person looking to buy an expensive asset is finance, so we will also be incorporating fin tech into our platform..
