Property Natter - events agents need to keep an eye out for

With Easter now upon us (happy Easter, by the way, and hope you’re enjoying the long weekend, the Easter eggs and the hot cross buns), it’s a good time to look forward to some key events in the property calendar in the coming weeks and months.

This time of the year is typically one where property conferences, exhibitions and awards ceremonies are plentiful, offering great opportunities for networking, education and celebrating the industry’s exploits.

Below are just a few of the upcoming events to look forward to…

FUTURE: PropTech 2019

Now a staple of the property calendar, the biggest PropTech event in town rolls back into London on May 14 at the impressive Business Design Centre in Islington.

The day includes numerous talks, panel discussions, keynote speakers and presentations, as well as various networking opportunities.

Some of the topics of note at this year’s conference include: Solving the housing crisis – what role can innovation play?, the role of AI for developers and investors, the rapid growth of the Build to Rent sector, how technology can improve the planning system, how housing supply can be improved, and whether modular housing is the future for housebuilding.

What’s more, to celebrate the conference’s 5th anniversary, ticketholders can attend a big birthday bash at one of London’s premier nightspots, with delicious BBQ food, live music from top DJs and drinks from 6pm till late.

Always a fascinating, well-run event, and well worth attending for an insight into the possible future direction of the property market and how innovation and technology might shape the way we buy, sell, rent and let homes.

The ESTAS

Yes, it’s that time of the year again. The property world’s version of the Oscars, this awards extravaganza continues to get bigger and better each year.

Once again, the event –with all trophies presented by Mr Phil Spencer himself – is being held at the lavish Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair.

Taking place on Friday May 10, the ceremony – which attracts more than 1,000 attendees from all across the country – aims to recognise the best estate and letting agents and suppliers to the property industry for customer service in the UK.

Kicking off with a welcome drinks reception (a great opportunity for networking), the four course lunch and presentation of the awards then follow, before the official ESTAS afterparty kicks into gear (followed by a fair few unofficial after-parties for those eager to party the night away in the capital!).

The ESTAS awards are particularly special because they are voted for by your customers.

If you’re up for an award this year, I’ll see you there! If you’re not, you may want to consider signing up to ESTAS in future to give yourself the chance of winning awards, enhancing your reputation and getting the opportunity to attend one of the best property events around.

RICS Residential Property Conference

One of the big players of the property industry holds its annual conference on July 4 2019 at the Hilton London Tower Bridge. Returning for its seventh year, the conference allows attendees to join leading experts in debating how technology, innovation and new regulation are moulding the future of the sector, and how those involved in the property industry can navigate policy, economic, and technological shifts in the residential property market.

The programme includes a number of keynote presentations and ‘parallel break-out streams’, enabling attendees to tailor the conference to ‘better their specific professional development’.

The agenda of the day-long event addresses key topics across survey and valuation, property management and technology, as well as examining live housing projects in action.

Speakers include Lord Best, Chair of the MHCLG’s Regulation of Property Agents Working Group, Mike Harlow, Acting Chief Executive and Chief Land Registrar at HM Land Registry, Paul Cutbill, Head of Professional Development at Countrywide and Lucian Cook, Director of Residential Research at Savills, with insightful sessions on the future of home buying, fire safety post-Grenfell, the impact of new technologies and the ongoing digitisation of the land registry system.

Sanjfest

Describing itself as one of the UK’s leading estate agency events, Sanjfest is back for a third edition at the Grand Connaught Rooms in Covent Garden on Friday June 14 2019.

Designed to show agents how to grow and enhance their agency in 2019, Sanjfest is the brainchild of Sanjay Ghandi, who founded Moss Properties in 2006 after more than two decades in the corporate world.

Speakers at the event include Tom Panos, regarded by real estate agents in New Zealand and Australia as the leading coach, estate agency trainer, superstar interviewer and all-round top man Christopher Watkin, respected industry figure Richard Rawlings, and social media experts advising on how agents can make the most of LinkedIn and Facebook.

If you’re looking for ways of improving your business through those easy to miss marginal gains, and eager to build the best team possible, this could be the event for you.

Sponsored by Goodlord and Moneypenny, and an event we have personally attended in the last two years, I can say with some conviction that it’s a conference well worth attending if you want to boost your agency.

The launch of PortalPal: 50% of leads from portals go unanswered – why?

If only you knew which leads would yield the best results, well you do now.

We are currently launching PortalPal, the newest product for members of The ValPal Network (TVPN), with a full rollout to non-members coming very shortly.

Put simply, PortalPal will automatically respond to all your portal enquiries - all your tenant, buyer, vendor and landlord leads from Rightmove, Zoopla and OnTheMarket - and will ask a few qualifying questions.

Not only does this give the applicant instant gratification for their enquiry, but it also provides you with better quality leads, as you know which ones to jump on first.

It will pre-qualify your portal leads, book in viewings and market appraisals online, make you money through referral services even if you never sell or rent to that applicant, identify new vendors and landlords for you and your team to follow up with, and direct traffic from the portals to your own website, something that as you know I am a big advocate of.

This excellent blog by Steph Rady, TVPN’s Head of Marketing and PR, goes into further detail about how PortalPal can make you money.

Speaking of TVPN, we recently integrated with BriefYourMarket.com to provide agents with the tools they need to seamlessly market to prospective clients who have requested an instant online valuation. More on the tie-up can be read here.

The above is just a small taster of what’s to come in the next months, but the value of industry events, networking opportunities, training advice from experts, and the chance to keep up to speed with the latest solutions to the sector’s issues shouldn’t be underestimated. And, even better, it can help you to grow and improve your own business.

That’s that from me…Until next time.
