Balloon gas? Helium. Makes your voice go squeaky. Spent my childhood at parties doing that. ‘If it’s Nitrous Oxide - bit of a silly gas to be inhaling. But this is hardly a wild coke snorting session!!

The headline for this article could equally have been “Government resists plans to implement ROPA recommendations”. The can has been kicked down the road.

I was working as an Estate Agent just down the road, all those years ago. It still haunts me. I didn’t know Suzy but plenty of others around me did. One day, the truth will out.

What a sloppy document from TS. They don't reveal the questions asked (likely to be leading postive questions like "do you think more information on each property would have been helpful?"). Nor does it suggest what information these buyers and tenants think is missing. This is simply TS fishing for information in an airy fairy way to justify their existance. We have enough red tape as it is. But from my point of view - floorplan, photos and location along with any material planning applications issues would be about it.

The crucial omission in this article is the reason for suspending debates in Westminster Hall. On the face of it, it stinks of JRM chipping away at our democracy.

The Government made their position quite clear several years ago - they wanted the selling market to "evolve" so that "consumers" would get a more efficient service for less money. What a load of tosh that turned out to be. And now, Propertymark reckon they can persuade the Whitehall morons to accept that higher tranaction costs should be acceptable. What planet are these twits living on?

The revenue figure looks quite impressive, but every other figure is gut wrenchenly awful. I'm very glad I'm ploughing away at what I know and not what might be. 2021 might prove me wrong - but the natural move in a storm is to head for harbour and safety.

Propertymark pushed for Estate Agencies to be treated as retail to benefit from grants etc....so it would appear clear that masks will need to be worn. Of course, the devil is in the detail!

The Government leaks news to gauge public sentiment on the subject matter. In this case it is likely to be unhelpful in the short term whilst no decision is made.

A government interventionist then - not really the way to go in my view. 'Help to Buy' is simply 'Help Fill the Directors Pockets'. Mortgage purchase guarantees would be another nutty Government waste of time and money. We have a free market - leave it that way. Stamp Duty has been shown to change market behaviour - look how the London market screeched to a halt when stamp duty rose to 12/15%. Get 5% deposits back for first time buyers, a sable market and we'll be ok.

An embarrassing knee jerk reaction. We’ve only just got working again. The furlough scheme was a relief for many but it is expensive and complex to run for businesses and Government. This letter will hit the bin pretty fast.

If the Government wants to make the housing market work better, they need to tackle the absurdly imbalanced stamp duty rates. Sadly we seem to have a Chancellor who doesn’t have the cajonas to tackle Osborne’s worst mistake

Who seriously thinks The Government would scrap stamp duty?! Great real folks - it is a major revenue stream for our tax crazy Chancellor (my local MP). BUT, George Osborne made a schoolboy error - he thought he could stiff the rich with mad stamp duty levels. This has filtered down the chain and we now see the result - a much poorer, less fluid property market. Stamp duty doesn’t need removing, it needs cutting. Previous Chancellors have cut taxes and seen the massive increase in tax take - this Chancellor is simply a scaredy-cat.
