Great article, Nat. I'd add one extra thing: a great brand is nothing without a great service and a great message. Identity, service and message must work together: if one is missing, the other two will be meaningless and empty.

About 10 years ago, when I was at propertyfinder.com (remember them?!) Bob North's 'portal review' in the Estate Agency News always made good reading, especially the table of properties, leads generated, page impressions etc. Although we always took the numbers, which were supplied by each portal themselves, with a great sack o' salt, the general direction of travel of each of the portals concerned has turned out to be pretty much true today. Bob - if you're reading this, do you fancy bringing that back for this website...? Or Graham...?

This finding is interesting, particularly when you think that so many agents (most?) start their 'about us' blurb on their website with 'we were founded in 19blahblah'! What the client really wants to know is how you can help them sell/let their property for the most money, quickly. An agent's ability to do that in 1916 bears little reflection on their abilities in 2016!
