I understand that estate agents should be vigilant, but why doesn't the government set up an AML platform where buyers and sellers can upload the relevant documents to satisfy compliance, rather than having to do this separately with the agent, solicitor, and bank/mortgage broker? The platform can then generate a code or certificate that can be use by the relevant business. Instead we are appointed as gatekeepers, but have to pay for the privilege, and face finds if we as much as blink. Absolute shambles!

Shall we now call all estate agents 'dodgy', or all bankers 'crooks', and football fans 'hooligans? You get the gist.

I know of an office where the MD is working from home, whilst his staff man the office. There is no underlying health backstory there at all. This is disgraceful - he should lead by example.

We are marketing a flat here in north London, with an outrageous ground rent of £750 per annum and a service charge of £3,3800. The property was bought as a new build a few years ago with a 125 year lease. I am astonished as to how these charges are legal. In addition, what solicitor in their right mind would not red flag these numbers to their client. It beggars belief!

Who in their right mind would place estate agents under the ‘essential business’ banner? As much as I want to earn a living, I also would like to stay safe. Allowing people to view properties contradicts the point of the so-called lockdown. It brings people out of their homes, and into other people’s homes. Some comments in the past have stated that PPE and short appointments are the the answer. If this is so, why can I not pop round to see my family or friends for a 15 minute chat through face masks! This doesn’t make any sense at all.

A distraught ex-employee rang me this evening after her boss informed her she must start work at 9am tomorrow. She has no professional childcare and is unable to fall back on her elderly parents of obvious reasons. The swift decision to allow agents to open their offices is arse about face, and hands a get out of jail free card to bosses who care more about their competitive edge than the well-being of their staff. To add insult to injury, the said boss has informed his staff that he will be working from home. Absolutely disgraceful.

The agent I'm referring to has a reputation for over promising, terrible customer service and more staff turnaround than a football ground turnstile. I'm afraid it turns the ESTAS into a bit of a farce for me.
