I do not understand why such a report has been published if it wasn't for the government's request. It is amusing when they tell us that the proceeds from such increase will go to building affordable homes for young people. Which young people are they talking about? the ones from China, Kuwait or Hong Kong? Surely with starting prices of £500,000 I cannot see young ones from the UK to be able to buy a property.

I like the article when it says some 1 million house movers benefited from the stamp duty holiday. Have they worked out how much they lost due to increased house price by the owners?

Increases in the asking price wiped out any savings you could have made on the house purchase. The only winners are the sellers at this stage. House before stamp duty holiday £460,000, the same house during the stamp duty holiday £560,000

You can all light a fat cigar when the average house prices reach £500,000 in the UK.

Covid has nothing to do with it. Over the years the prices have been climbing up, sometimes smoothly sometimes steeply. The only reason is easy money. People have come to realise that if they buy a property and rent it out they can make a really comfortable living for themselves. More properties equals better living. This is happening not only in the UK but all around the world. Drastic solution: A person or a company should be allowed to buy maximum of 2 properties

if they are so worried, then they should not meddle with housing market

In the future, there will be no private ownership of cars or properties. We will all be renting from banks and their masters.

We do not need government intervention in housing market any more. The housing market should not be seen as the saviour of the economy. interventions causes lots of long term problems, like boom and bust. The housing market should be left to grow naturally and not be pumped with hormones like they do it with chickens.

Why do people cheer when house prices keep going up? Currently there is a carnival mood because prices have shot up. Very soon, there will be nothing less than £500k anywhere in the UK, including County Durham. Housing market is not the saviour of the UK economy. These price increases are not natural and can be a sign of bad things ahead

you are so correct. I feel this one is going to bump up the prices even more. Is this what we want? Eventually all houses will be in the hands of select few and normal people will be forever tenants

The cane toads were introduced to Australia to help farmers with their fight against the cane larvae that were eating up the sugar cane thus causing financial catastrophe. Soon after, the cane toads showed explosive growth and they, in turn, became pest themselves, even more than the larvae that they were supposed to control The moral of the story is; stop messing with the nature of things, ie; introducing stamp duty reliefs, rent controls etc. into the housing market. Let the housing market find its own feet

No one has a clue about the virus or the lock-down regulations, this includes the Government. Everyone is saying something.

Government is useless when it comes to tackling serious issues, such as economy, increasing crime, NHS short comings and Brexit, instead they are all having a go at destabilising the property market. it seems everybody in the government is a housing specialist. Everyday a new law is being passed, mostly ill thought and taken without due consultation from experts and property professionals.

Cane toads were introduced in Australia as pest control but they nearly decimated the entire species of wildlife. This was done without proper research. The government in the UK is doing the same thing; constantly introducing new laws and regulations in housing industry without due thought process. They do not pay any attention to the consequences of their decisions.
