So glad we left that dreadful company, and our bank balance is nearly £2000 better off for it each month. OTM and Zoopla are supplying us with all the leads we could ever want between them. Our decision to part company was deffo the right move!

I honestly don't know why agents are hesitating with regards to throwing in the Rightmove towel. We are enjoying the £1700 we are saving by having left, are getting just as many leads and haven't lost any sellers when I've told them we are no longer on Rightmove and, importantly, we're getting just as many buyer leads (thanks OTM). Kerching!!

Well they are certainly our number 1 portal, giving us more quality leads than anyone else.

My thoughts exactly Andrew. It's upto us agents to spread the word that Rightmove's had it day and there are other portals to visit too. I'd like to know the number of visitors that Zoopla and OTM had.

I don't agree Chris. We have dropped Rightmove as we were getting far more quality leads from OTM and at a much more reasonable cost.

Or you need agents wiling to take a punt. I really don't understand the reluctance of other agents to get on board with OTM. They are supplying us with almost as many leads as Rightmove and Zoopla put together, and they are reasonably priced. Every agent has heard of them now. What's the issue, I really don't get it?

For now, but what are their intentions regarding fees if they get as big as Rightmove? Charge as much as Rightmove? I'm sticking with On The Market as they are getting there now.

Don't you believe it Angus. We left last month and have had no problem convincing vendors and landlords that we don't need Rightmove.

Yes we've given notice, leaving next month. As a small agency we are simply not willing to spend £1700 on Rightmove a month on one portal when we are getting just as many enquiries, if not more, from Zoopla and OTM combined.

Yes good points. The funny thing is that the monopolies commission appears to be protecting Rightmove, threatening agents against dropping RM en-masse, saying they would be acting as cartels. They are refusing to acknowledge that Rightmove is acting as a monopoly itself, taking huge advantage of its dominant position, and that customers would benefit by agents reducing their advertsing overheads.

Overtaking Rightmove was never going to be an overnight thing, and I get frustrated by those who seem to think it would be. In our area at least On The Market is making great inroads and we are very pleased with the increasing leads it is now delivering, considerably more than Zoopla each week. Agents linking servers together? Do you really think that would happen! We don't need any more portals, they all cost money, we just all need to get behind OTM which is the best chance we have to bring our fees down - it hasn't 'failed', it IS getting there.

I quite agree Lee, they worry buyers unnecessarily. I'm sick to the back teeth of buyers being ripped off to the tune of £500+ for a homebuyers reports that lack commitment and defers findings to 'specialist reports' at yet a further cost to the buyer. I've seen one report recommending no fewer than 3 specialist reports - what the buyer was paying for in the homebuyers report I really don't know. If the surveyor isn't confident carrying out the work he is paid to do then he shouldn't be taking on the job!

Jeez, what a nasty little article. Well we converted to paying agents within the last couple of months, so there is at least 1 new member Graham Norwood. We, and I know of other local agents, are very grateful for the arrival of OTM. Just for the record, what does 'curry facing' mean???

We have a small independent office in South Wales and are fed up with Rightmove's unfair increases each year and arrogant attitude. We are finding they are still providing us with the most leads (at present) but OTM has overtaken Zoopla and is catching upto Rightmove. We're currently paying: Rightmove £1196.50 ex VAT (£1435.80 inc VAT) on their 'Essential' package Zoopla £237.00 ex VAT (£284.40 inc VAT) OTM £150 ex VAT (£180 inc VAT) for 6 months - just converted from the free trial As soon as OTM catches up a bit more to Rightmove, we'll be dropping it like a brick. I'm preparing the ground now by pushing OTM at every opportunity.

Why are so many articles being written as though they are happy to see OTM hitting potholes, when it is the industry's only chance of stopping Rightmove's determined advance to unaffordable monthly fees? OTM has an attractive front end, it's being heavily promoted on the tv and it's delivering excellent quality leads to our company, way more than Zoopla. What's not to like?

Zoopla seems to be much more relevant in London than where we are based. To be fair, it was never going to be easy unseating a giant such as Rightmove as it is so entrenched. However, I DO believe this will change in the not too distant future as I'm sensing an atmosphere of rebellion in the industry. We are currently considering dropping RM even though it is still giving us more leads than OTM, it costs us the same as a part time member of staff, which I believe we need more. We have seen a healthy increase in leads from OTM during our free trial and so will be signing up with them as a paying member soon. Despite the bad press it received during its introduction, I still believe OTM is our best/only chance of knocking our advertising costs down significantly at present, and as such it is crucial it succeeds.

I'm having the same problem. Once you add to your 'package' they dont give you much of a reduction if you choose to go back to where you were. I have just been quoted a reduction of £24 per month in order to lose the 'upgrades' which cost us over £200 per month. It seems that once you go up you can never go down :(

When you pay a professional for a service it is only reasonable to expect it to be carried out in a timely and efficient manner. You shouldn't have to keep chasing them. One of our buyer clients has just lost the property he was buying as his mortgage offer expired. Despite us chasing them frequently, they have spent over six months messing around only to discover a problem that required a land registry change a few days before the mortgage offer expired, ie. when they decided they would get their act together. The buyer is going to have to reapply for a new mortgage now with all the delays and expense that goes with it. It's shockingly bad. We recently sold a property to a conveyancing assistant and it was all done and dusted within 4 weeks, even with a mortgage, It's amazing how quickly they can work when they have the motivation.

I couldn't agree any more. There are just 3 of us in our little business yet we still have to cover the mountain of work this red tape demands. It equates to almost a full time job for me, unpaid of course. With the introduction of more and more regulation I'm finding less and less time to actually work on the business itself, providing little chance of growth while my other 2 are flat out on day to day activities. It's sheer madness.
