Agents Do Charity - doing it for the kids

There are some inspiring examples of agents and property professionals raising money for all-important children's charities this week.

Remember, if you have charitable exploits you want the rest of the industry to know about, email press@estateagenttoday.co.uk, or contact us on social media, and we’ll do the rest.

Barratt Homes: Barratt Homes has made a £30,000 donation to The Children’s Trust, a charity for young people with brain injuries.

The money will go towards supporting its services in and around Tadworth, Surrey.

The donation from the housebuilder’s Southern Counties and Kent divisions will be distributed across the charity to support various projects and initiatives planned for its beneficiaries throughout the rest of 2022.

Kimberley Benson, sales and marketing director for Barratt Southern Counties, said: “We feel privileged to have The Children’s Trust’s nationally recognised residential rehabilitation centre on our doorstep and wanted to ensure that for the foreseeable future, these services remain financially supported and secure.

“We hope our donation can take any stress off the involved families so they can instead focus solely on enjoying time with their children and planning for life ahead.”

In recent months, the housebuilder has also made a £67,621 donation to Sebastian’s Action Trust and has kickstarted fundraising for its 2022 charity of the year, Halow Project, with a 100 kilometre hike along the Coast in Dorset

Barbon Insurance Group: Tenant referencing group Barbon is putting its weight behind employee enterprise to support the communities they live and work in.

The brand’s lettings suppliers HomeLet, Let Alliance and Rent4sure have helped raise around £10,000 so far this year in direct grants to employee-nominated local charities or to help colleagues with their fundraising initiatives.

Fundraising activities include a recent challenge by HomeLet staff to fire walk over hot coals in aid of St Barnabas Hospice in Lincolnshire.

Other efforts across the Barbon group have included sponsorship of the recent Dragon Boat Race in Essex, where property professionals battled it out on the water for charity, impressive and challenging personal sporting achievements, foodbank collections, crocheting daffodils, cake sales and hosting quizzes or village events.

More recently, colleagues have been eager to get involved in providing humanitarian aid for Ukraine, including supporting their local Polish community to transport urgently needed items such as medical supplies and baby items to Poland or directly to Ukraine.

Andy Halstead, chief executive of Barbon, said: “Alongside Barbon’s reputation for excellent customer care, our support for local fundraising activities demonstrates the central commitments that are fundamental to the culture of our group.

“As a market leader within the UK’s thriving lettings industry, we’re also part of a wider community with a responsibility that extends beyond the high streets where our offices are based.

“We’re dedicated to helping our teams engage with and support their local community through charitable endeavours that benefit and connect everyone, because together we really are stronger.

“Each initiative represents a unique story, often closely linked to the lives and wellbeing of our staff, their families and the community in which they live.”

Nicol & Co: Independent Midlands estate agency Nicol & Co has presented a cheque worth £2,400 to Acorns Children’s Hospice, which has three hospices in Worcester, Birmingham and Walsall.

The donation is one of scores that have been made to local charities, schools and groups from Nicol & Co’s community fund that has now topped £25,000.

Nicol & Co, which has three branches in Droitwich, Malvern and Worcester, launched the scheme in March 2021 by pledging £100 to the seller’s good cause of choice for every property sale it handles.

Matt Nicol, managing director of Nicol & Co, said: “Acorns is a charity close to many people’s hearts across the Midlands and we are so happy that our customers have helped us to make this donation.

“We decided that for every completion we achieved on new instructions we would donate £100 of our fee to the school, community group, local charity or food bank of the client’s choice.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response from both customers and local groups who all love the idea that every sale equals something good happening in the community.

“Being rooted in the community has always been part of our culture at Nicol & Co, and we were determined to continue showing that in a more regular and meaningful way.”

Founded in 1988, Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care for  children and young people with life limiting and life threatening conditions.  A registered charity, Acorns needs to raise £27,000 each day to continue its lifeline care and support.

Mel Hall, area fundraiser for Acorns Children’s Hospice, said: “A huge thank you to everyone at Nicol & Co and their generous customers for supporting Acorns through their house sales.

“The money raised will make a real difference to the children and families who rely on our lifeline care and support.”

Agents Giving: The shortlists for the Fundraising Champions of the Year Awards 2022 have been revealed.

The winners will be revealed at the Agents Giving Charity Ball, sponsored by Callwell and supported by Nurtur and Atlas Display, on 15 July.

David Newnes, chairman of Agents Giving, said: “We have read about so many wonderful fundraising events and seen examples of truly heartwarming stories – well done to everyone.

“This once again highlights that there are so many of you doing fantastic charity, fundraising and community work.”
