Our latest interview is with Tommy Newbigging, head of residential sales at Carter Jonas in Suffolk.

He joined the estate agent in August 2016 as a sales negotiator and worked his way up to head of residential sales in 2020.

Newbigging recounts his first property sale in December 2016 and the importance of getting it completed by Christmas.

He told Estate Agent Today: “I still have the property details of my first sale, it was a lovely house in a small village abut 10 minutes from the office.

"That was my first proper deal from start to finish.

"The  great joy I had was getting it sold and completed just before Christmas.

"The natural conveyancing period is 10 to 12 weeks.

“When you look to agree a deal prior to Christmas, everyone wants that milestone and I wanted to achieve that.

"It was a wonderful feeling.

“It’s about doing what is best for our client base.

“We tend to earn our fee between the conveyancing period, selling is the fun part, but chasing to exchange is more difficult.

"It is always a wonderful moment when you can release the keys."
