One of the property market's leading names has welcomed young people into its company for work experience through a partnership with a UK-wide social mobility charity.
Savills has enabled school and college students to undertake work experience in London, Birmingham and Bristol this summer as part of its partnership with Career Ready, a charity which invests in young people with diverse backgrounds.
Savills colleagues have, since partnering with Career Ready in 2019, 'contributed towards the charity's mission to priortise those who need their support most through a number of initiatives'.
These have included joining the charity’s mentor programme, leading workshops online and running masterclasses, 'all of which have offered knowledge and insight to inspire young people to kick-start a rewarding future'. Savills says the introduction of work experience forms a new and exciting phase in the partnership.
During their time with Savills, a global business listed on the London Stock Exchange and a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index, young people have joined a variety of teams including business development, social media, global residential development consultancy, property management, retail and valuation.
Throughout the week of work experience, they were able to gain a practical understanding of the world of work and, by undertaking dedicated projects, attending meetings and engaging with those around them, students were able to learn about the breadth of careers available within the property industry. To bring their time with Savills to a close, each presented on a relevant subject matter.
Following their week with Savills, the youngsters involved reflected on how the work experience had impacted them:
‘Being at Savills has been extremely beneficial as I had not had any real-life experience of what a job is like….making connections with the people in the workplace has been a confidence boost as well as helping with my networking skills. This Savills placement has been amazing!’
‘Work experience at Savills has been the greatest opportunity I ever have received and I thank Savills and Career Ready for this amazing chance to experience real-life work and explore different departments within the company. I've learnt so many things out of this work experience…speaking to many employees at Savills has boosted my passion for higher education and made me look forward to working at an office in the near future.’
Richard Rees, UK managing director at Savills, said of Savills tie-up with the chartiy: “As part of our partnership with Career Ready, we are extremely proud to be contributing towards their mission of transforming young lives, boosting social mobility and giving undiscovered talent a platform from which to flourish. We look forward to continuing to develop this collaboration across the UK and to be able to play a role in inspiring the workforce of tomorrow.”
