Surge in sellers leaving London dates back to 2018, claims new analysis

New research suggests that the number of owners enquiring to sell across Greater London has increased by 68 per cent since 2018.

However, the pandemic has exacerbated this trend: comparing the January-to-May period this year with last year, there’s been a rise of 81 per cent.

The largest increases in enquiries were in Hackney (225 per cent), Lambeth (174 per cent) and Islington (172 per cent).

The boroughs with the lowest increase in enquiries were the Bromley (which increased by 12 per cent) and Havering (increasing 17 per cent).

The City of London was the only borough within Greater London not to have seen a rise in homeowners looking to sell this past year - in fact its enquiries to sell dropped 25 per cent.

The research was conducted by quick sale company We Buy Any Home and was based on the number of house sales enquiries it received between January 2018 and May 2021.
