Tragedy as footballer turned estate agent dies aged 58

A well respected professional footballer who became an estate agent in his adopted home town has died at the young age of 58.

A statement by Shrewsbury Town Football Club has revealed that the club’s former goalkeeper Steve Perks passed away.

Perks represented Shrewsbury 292 times in all competitions between 1982 and 1992, including a celebrated period when the club was hugely successful in the old Second Division.

After retiring from the game Perks worked as an estate agent in Shrewsbury for Holland Broadbridge, a job he said he loved.

He lived in the town and is survived by his two children.
