Buying agents level playing field with estate agents, says Phil Spencer

Buying agents level the playing field with estate agents according to Phil Spencer - the TV property expert who started his career in the industry setting up his own buying agency.

Spencer, in a video interview for his Move iQ service, says he loved his time as a buying agent, and still loves the feeling of achievement when he helps someone find and negotiate the purchase of their dream home for his TV programmes.

The interview is with Jonathan Hopper, chief executive of Garrington Property Finders - the buying agency which Spencer himself originally founded in 1996, before the start of his Channel 4 Location, Location, Location programme.

It covers the growth in buying agents today compared to years past, the variety of clients, and how buying agents relate to estate agents; there’s also debate on how the eventual implementation of the Regulation of Property Agents protocols will affect buying agents.

Thanks to Move iQ for the exclusive on this video interview, which is below. Other interviews and the rest of the Move iQ property service can be seen here

In the interests of transparency it should probably be pointed out that Spencer and Hopper are joint owners of MovieIQ according to companies house.

Also Hopper’s assertions about ropa, hardly amount to a debate. He says ropa is coming in, and will apply to buying agents, neither of which is an accurate statement but rather pure speculation.

Never ever come across a buying agent

We have seen and now work with a number of buying agents. Some working for overseas investors. Many people are cash rich and time poor so it is no surprise.
