A Connells senior negotiator has received a suspended prison sentence after being found guilty of wounding following an attack at a Wetherspoons pub last year.

Hollie Crutchley, 22, threw a gin glass at a woman after she demanded Crutchley pay for a basket of food which she had taken from a nearby table.

Media reports say the victim needed six stitches following the attack at the pub in Cheadle, Stoke-on-Trent, in August 2020.

Crutchley, who was senior negotiator at Connells in Litchfield, was sentenced to eight months in prison, suspended for 12 months, after admitting a charge of wounding.

Reports in the Sun and the Daily Mail say that prosecutor Rachel Pennington told Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court that Crutchley was in the Wheatsheaf pub on August 14 last year, and took a basket of cooked chicken belonging to another customer and ate it.

A woman who worked at the pub - but who was off duty and socialising at the time - suggested that Crutchley should pay for the food.

The prosecutor told the court: “The defendant shouted ‘Do you want to go, do you want to go?’ She picked up a drink and threw the glass and contents at her. Security went to intervene.”

The victim lifted her arm to protect herself - her arm required six stitches after the glass smashed against it.

Saleema Mahmood, defending Crutchley, told the court that the agent was of previous good character and had been reckless in throwing the glass. “The injury was minimal. She is extremely remorseful” Mahmood claimed.

In addition to the suspended prison sentence Crutchley must undertake rehabilitation for 20 days plus 120 hours unpaid work, and must pay her victim £500 compensation.
