Industry rivals unite to push estate agents to Go Green

Sustainable Agent, a new members-owned eco-scheme for agents and property management companies, has announced a tie-in with review and awards platform ESTAS.

As we revealed on Estate Agent Today on Monday, the scheme has been set up by review and awards service allAgents - a rival to the ESTAS.

The scheme is open to those agents and management firms that voluntarily pledge to become a zero-carbon business and manager of carbon efficient or carbon neutral residential properties.

Now ESTAS supremo Simon Brown has been named as a co-founder of Sustainable Agent.

Vincent Friel of allAgents says: “Whilst we compete in the same sector, I have always had the greatest respect for Simon and when this conversation came up, we realised that wanting to do something to reduce the carbon footprint in the property industry was on both our radars.

“If we can work together for the good of our environment, then so can anyone else within the industry.”

Brown adds: “The environmental crisis we are facing as a planet is far bigger than our rivalry as competitors so when Vincent approached me it was a no brainer.

“We have a huge responsibility collectively in the residential property sector with 20 per cent of the UK’s carbon emissions coming from our homes. We simply have to do something and do it now. I really hope we can galvanise agents to join the scheme and show the general public that, contrary to popular misperceptions, they really do care.”

More founding members will be announced over the coming weeks, and the new organisation is asking for agents and management firms to sign up here.

OMG. Our very own Greta. Just what we need. Not everyone believes there is a climate crisis/catastrophe or anything else.

It doesn’t require your belief to be a fact.

Here's another genuine fact for you, this green agenda is going to economically devastate Western economies. China India and Russia will reap the benefits of our fiscal folly, as they have already albeit in a polite fashion that we can get stuffed.

On the contrary, there is a fantastic opportunity for whoever gets in first on leading the green revolution. The future is green, whether people like it or not, and it's those people and companies who take advantage of that fact that will thrive. China, India, Russia and others will follow when they realise all the money is in renewables, green tech and sustainability.

Ah, the climate change deniers are out in force, I see. I suppose all these recent extreme weather events are happening by magic, are they?

Luckily, most world leaders now seem to be on board and realise they can't ignore the facts presented to them anymore. Sustainability is now the name of the game, and the public pressure for change is huge. That's no small thing and has really changed the conversation around green issues.

Good to see ESTAS and AllAgents putting rivalries aside to put together this venture - interesting to see how it pans out.
