Agents Do Charity - as wintry weather bites...

Well it’s about time isn’t it? We mean winter - it’s here at last, with white, wintry weather that gets us in the mood for Christmas.

But for everyone who loves frost and snow, there are others who suffer from it, especially if they are in dire circumstances - and that’s where our industry shines, helping others.

If you’re doing any festive fund-raising or good works, please let us know on press@estateagenttoday.co.uk and we’ll share your fine deeds with the industry.

Now, careful of that slippery path - off we go…

Fine & Country Foundation: On Sunday December 5 the foundation will once again be hosting its annual Carols By Candlelight at the iconic King’s College Chapel in the heart of Cambridge. The magnificent scale, acoustics and beauty of the chapel make it an idyllic setting for an evening of music and readings. All proceeds from the event will be donated to charities which have a hand in aiding the fight against homelessness and poverty.

Jon Cooke, trustee of the foundation, says: “Last year we held a virtual carols concert, however, this year we are back at the beautiful setting of King’s College Chapel. The carol concert has become a firm favourite on the Foundation’s annual calendar and we are pleased to be able to host the event once again. It is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit with friends and family, while giving back and making a difference. The money raised from the event will go towards causes and organisations that help people who are either homeless or living in poverty, especially pertinent at this time of year.”

Penyrheol Primary School: Dawsons agency in Swansea is providing this school with learning packs which contain a set of educational books along with lesson plans to help support and grow entrepreneurial skills within the classroom.

“It is a great concept which is spreading fast here in Swansea with some great local businesses getting behind the programme and sponsoring schools throughout the city” explains Dawsons’ marketing coordinator Naomi Webborn.

The children at Penyrheol along with many other local Swansea and Llanelli schools have also been giving the opportunity to enter Dawsons’ eco Christmas decoration competition which is currently running.

“We hope the children will bring their creation to our local branches where we shall display their craft in our windows leading up to the Christmas festivities.  It’s a great environmentally friendly project, the brain child of our IT guru Kate Phillips, we cant wait to see what the children bring our way in coming weeks, see the blog below providing the information needed to take part” explains Naomi.

Movember: The business development manager at conveyancing portal Sort Move - Dan Lawrence - has been ‘doing’ Movember in aid of men’s Mental Health and Prostate Cancer awareness.

Raising over £2700 for the Movember Foundation since 2012, Dan is set on target to raising another £250 this year for the charity.

He tells us: “Movember is such a world-renowned campaign supporting men’s health. With me personally going through a bout of testicular cancer back in 2018, it’s one of many ‘easy’ options for me to promote and raise awareness of men’s health through fund raising and looking a bit silly with a horrible moustache. The team at Movember are always supportive too, sending content and ideas for fundraising events and campaigns, so a worthy candidate in my eyes.”

And will he be keeping the ‘tache? – “Absolutely not! Bring back the beard!”

Agents Giving: The industry charity Agents Giving has given some examples of work being done by member agents and supporters, and recipients of Agents Giving Grants.

Duncan Jones and the team at Just Mortgages-Spicerheart took the plunge for a 100ft abseil down the side of the Windsor Building at The Leicester Infirmary in September to raise funds for Leicester Children’s Hospital Appeal.  The team were keen to play their part in helping to create the first ever stand-alone, dedicated children’s hospital in the East Midlands.  Donations to the hospital means they can enhance the services, care and environment at the hospital.

Clodagh Megahey and the team at Kingham Properties did their annual Sleep Out on the 4th November in Stormont with all proceeds donated to The Simon Community - the leading homeless charity in Northern Ireland.  They offer homelessness support services, accommodation and shelter projects.  Agents Giving and The Guild supported with a grant to help continue the amazing work they carry out.

Michael Stoop, Chairman of Agents Giving comments; “The Agents Giving Grant Fund supported by The Guild is offering a helping hand with your fundraising plans, charities need your support more than ever and we can help you raise more funds and also help promote your event”.

So what are you waiting for? Plan your next charity event and apply for an Agents Giving grant to help with your costs.  Any requests should be made via a registration form on the Agents Giving website https://agentsgiving.org/the-agents-giving-grant-fund

To apply for a grant you must be fundraising for a UK registered charity.
