Do It For Dom: The never knowingly underquoted Kristjan Byfield, of Base Property Specialists in London, writes: “On October 22 The ESTAS takes place - the first major in-person industry awards event to take place since the pandemic hit. I’ve spoken to agents and suppliers from across the country and the feeling is unanimous - everyone is so excited to celebrate and look back on a titanic last couple of years!

“However, it’s not just the networking, celebrations and revelry that we have all missed- charities have desperately missed our ability to fund raise for them. It is therefore full credit to Sarah & Simon Brown who organise The ESTAS that they have granted a possible return of the Viking! Those that attended The ESTAS in 2018 will likely remember this rather well!

“Raising money on behalf of Do It For Dom for the Huntingdon’s Disease Association we have set a moderate fundraising target of £3,000. If hit, this will see me return next Friday to The Grosvenor House Hotel in ‘full Viking’ mode. Let’s see, as an industry, if we can raise a rather amazing sum for a very special cause and on behalf of Dom who is an incredible representative of our industry. Let’s show this country how amazing our industry is, day in, day out!”

You can donate here.

And if you’re at The ESTAS, do grab a photo with Kristjan in his regalia, and please send it to EAT to be used on these pages in the near future - thanks!

Mind: Connells Group has raised £11,775 for its corporate charity partner Mind by organising a 10 mile walk between two of its head office locations.

The event, which coincided with World Mental Health Day last weekend, saw a team of over 80 walk or run 10 miles along the Grand Union Canal – from Cumbria House in Leighton Buzzard to Countrywide House in Milton Keynes.

As well as being an opportunity to raise essential funds to support Mind in the fight for better mental health, the event brought together teams from across both Connells and Countrywide and, for some, the first time to catch up with colleagues in person safely since the start of the pandemic.

Connells Group CEO David Livesey says: “Well done and thank you to all those who walked, ran, volunteered and donated to our challenge. It was a fantastic day bringing everyone together for such a worthwhile cause. We feel this is an important year in particular to support and promote mental wellbeing given the past 18 months – and the day certainly proved just the tonic being out in the fresh air and seeing many colleagues. This has been our first significant charity event since the pandemic and we look forward to many more to come.”

And Emma Ishan, head of corporate partnerships at Mind, adds: “We’re so thankful to the teams from Connells Group for completing their 10 miles for Mind challenge on World Mental Health Day. The pandemic has had a devastating effect on the nation’s mental health, especially for those of us with existing mental health problems, and it is vital that everyone has access to the right support, advice and information when they need it. The money raised by Connells Group will enable us to continue to provide support so that no one has to face their mental health problem alone.”

St Francis Hospice: Beresfords Group, along with Sanders Solicitors, has held a golf day raising over £8,000 for this great cause.

Sir Trevor Brooking once again showed his support by attending the charity day. A long-time ambassador of St Francis Hospice, he chatted and met with players throughout the day, and showing his generosity with his time he stayed and handed out prizes at the evening’s presentations and auction.

Beresfords' new business and marketing director Nicki Treffers says: “We were delighted that we exceeded our previous fundraising total, this was in no doubt thanks to the amazing donations that we had from supporters. It is vital at times like this when the hospice has struggled to fundraise due to Covid-19, to show our commitment to the cause. We are very much looking forward to planning the next one.”

C4WS: Since early 2021, Lindsay Gill and Natasha Price of Savills London Residential Development team have been running and taking part in one-on-one weekly video calls to help this great charity’s guests practice English.

Whether it be learning how to speak to a doctor, understanding paper work or being able to hold a conversation with a friend, discussion is based upon where the individual feels they need support the most.

The initiative has been so successful that additional Savills volunteers have been recruited over time to be paired with others supported by C4WS who are seeking to develop their language skills. The sessions take place weekly for a minimum of three months, although many volunteers opt to extend their term with the same pairs meeting each time in order to establish consistency and rapport.

Lindsay comments: “When many people are struggling, one thing we can give is our time. The guests at C4WS are so grateful and have found the conversation sessions invaluable. For many, learning English opens up a world of opportunities, but importantly a friendship and someone to confide in.”

Amazing support for me to go full Viking but I'd love it if we can hit double the target (£3k) by next Friday- we are currently just shy of £2k and I know we can do this with your support. Please donate if you can- if 108 of you donate just £10 we've done it!
