Agents Do Charity - and have we got Mews for you?

Fund-raising takes all sorts of shapes and sizes and this week we have a splendid selection proving that point.

Don’t miss out on this - the industry loves reading of how it contributes so much to the goodwill and help that makes our society go round, especially in difficult times. So please email details and photos of your fund-raising activity to press@estateagenttoday.co.uk and allow us to tell everyone else what’s going on.

Mews In Bloom: This event organised by prominent London agency and mews specialists Lurot Brand, was especially poignant. For residents, friends and families, it celebrated the importance of having access to communal outdoor space, in the heart of London’s traditional mews.

Judges visited five shortlisted mews across central London – Bathurst Mews and Hyde Park Mews W2, Elnathan Mews W9, Scampston Mews W10 and Kynnace Mews SW7.  The judges were united in their praise for the finalists and commented:  “Every year the imagination, creativity and love that mews residents display with their glorious garden entries in the Mews in Bloom competition organised by mews specialists, Lurot Brand, captivates the expert judging panel.”

All three expert judges agreed that Bathurst Mews deserved to be the overall winner.  Residents will receive a cast bronze plaque to be mounted on display in their mews.  They will also have £1,000 donated on their behalf to the charity they choose from these four: urbangrowth.london, greenfingerscharity.org.uk, culpeper.org.uk, thrive.org.uk.

Judge, Robert Mann summed up what stood out for him about Bathurst Mews: “Bathurst Mews is truly beautiful garden, which uses the structures of urban living to create a green oasis where nature and people coexist in harmony.”

Pendleside Hospice: Petty Real estate agency, which has branches across Burnley and Pendle, has made a generous £12,000 donation to the hospice.

Aaron Tunbridge, Pendle area manager, says the hospice “has been our chosen charity for many years now and we understand the importance of the care it provides to our local community. We are proud to be able to donate such a sum when the last 18 months have been so difficult for so many.”

And Helen McVey, who is chief executive of the hospice, said donations like this meant a great deal.

She says: "It’s been a really challenging 18 months and donations like this really make a difference. We’ve had to increase our services due to the pandemic, whilst seeing a reduction in our fundraising and retail income.

"When donations like this come along from local businesses it really does help us to keep our services running. A massive thank you to Petty's for their support.”

Marie Curie: Mundys Estate Agents has announced that its Lincolnshire offices will pledge £20 from each of their house sales to the charity. The campaign, Your House to Theirs, will last 12 months, with every £20 funding one hour of nursing care for terminally ill people across Lincolnshire.

Simon Bentley, partner of Mundys, says: “We are all aware of the wonderful work that Marie Curie does nationwide to support people with all aspects of dying, death and bereavement and a lot of us will sadly have had need of their support.

“This [donation] is the equivalent of one hour’s care provided by the Marie Curie team. Hopefully this contribution will help maintain their much-needed services.”

Cheshire Young Carers: Chester-based agency Matthews has raised £4,000 for its charity partner, Cheshire Young Carers.

All 25 staff took part in a collective walk of 2,604 miles (the equivalent of Chester to Rome and back) in order to reach the target to support the young carers charity.

The initiative also marks the estate agent celebrating its 35th birthday and staff wanted to mark the occasion by giving back to the local community.
