Agent Alert: Rise in property fraud makes data checks vital

An alert has gone out to sales and lettings agents to be more diligent with their checking of data, and to look at Open Banking.

James Owusu, founder of tenant and buyer verification platform Checkboard, has made the call in a video interview with Estate Agent Today.

Owusu says property fraud has risen extensively in recent years, exacerbated by the restrictions placed on some forms of verification during the Covid period.

This, he believes, is where agents can use the advantages of Open Banking, which is the networking of accounts and data across different financial and property service providers - allowing users to verify individuals more securely and accurately than in the past.

It’s a brisk three minute interview which shows how Open Banking can be used by both sales and lettings agents, and it’s an exclusive interview for EAT readers.
