Property Jobs Today - the latest movers and shakers for the industry

Hello and at the start of another working week, welcome to our regular jobs slot announcing who’s moving where within the industry.

Please let us know your jobs news by emailing press@estateagenttoday.co.uk and you could be featuring here next time…

Let’s start with property consultancy Knight Frank which has announced James Cleland as head of residential country business effective from April 2021, succeeding David Peters.

James joined Knight Frank in 1995 and is head of the firm’s Home Counties region, which has offices in Ascot & Virginia Water, Beaconsfield, Cobham, Esher, Henley-on-Thames and Weybridge.

He was made proprietary partner in 2017 and will represent the country business on Knight Frank’s UK residential board.

Knight Frank’s country business includes 29 of the firm’s 59 high street offices; the residential network comprises 1,300 employees across the UK making it one of the largest estate agency groups in the country.

Now into the hallowed halls of industry body Propertymark where the new chief executive is Tim Balcon, until recently head of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment.

Tim has previously worked at exams regulator Ofqual as well as an energy industry skills organisation and a vocational training advisory committee.

“Housing is arguably the most important portfolio within the economic playbook and I look forward to bringing my experience of regulation, Government oversight and educational strategy along with my experience inside a number of different membership bodies, to bear on the next stage of the business’s development" he says.

It’s also been confirmed that Nicky Heathcote, currently the senior independent director of Propertymark, is to serve as interim chair following the departure of veteran chairman Chris Hamer last month.

Now let’s see who has been named as group operations director at franchise giant Belvoir - it’s Grace Milham, who has over 20 years of experience in commercial and operational management.

She first joined Belvoir in 2011 as a business development manager, returning as head of compliance in 2018.

“My new role within the group will coordinate the best practice of all brands, aligning practical elements of the business whilst also retaining clear individual identities for Belvoir, Northwood, Newton Fallowell and Lovelle. I’m looking forward to working with the fantastic Senior Management Team and playing a pivotal role in some very exciting new projects” explains Grace.

And talking of franchises, you may have seen on Estate Agent Today in recent days that industry veteran Eric Walker has joined Martin & Co to head up its South of England and Scotland operations.

That means Walker, who until recently had been Group MD of Belvoir and its subsidiary brands and before that led Northwood for many years, is now with rival company The Property Franchise Group.

At Martin & Co Eric will oversee the implementation of growth initiatives and will take the lead on ensuring best practice in line with the Regulation of Property Agents across TPFG.

Another very familiar name to seasoned figures in the industry is Marc Goldberg, who has joined London agency Marsh & Parsons to run nine of its branches.

A former head of sales at Hamptons International, he has also worked at Dexters.

At Marsh & Parsons he is to take the title of regional sales director and will look after the branches at Chelsea, Earl’s Court, Holland Park, Kensington, Pimlico, North Kensington, Notting Hill, South Kensington and Marylebone, where he will be based.

Finally this week, Connells Group has revealed seven appointments to its board of directors which it links directly with a target to grow presence and market share on the High Street.

A Connells Group statement says they signal the firm’s intention to further strengthen its business “as it targets its next phase of growth.”

Within estate agency the new appointments start with Rob Jenner, promoted to divisional managing director for Sequence’s EC South 1 division. He joined the business in 1998 as a negotiator in the William H Brown branch and most recently held the position of regional director.

Jonathan Weedon, promoted to divisional managing director for Sequence’s EC South 2 division, joined William H Brown in 2006 and is promoted from his current role as regional director.

Also in estate agency is Chris Rosindale who rejoins from his most recent position as chief operating officer at online agency YOPA. He initially joined Barnard Marcus in 2012.

In the Connells Group Land & New Homes division Iain Berry and Jason Howes join the board, while new board members from Mortgage Services include Stuart Dare - a 20 year veteran at Connells - and Marc Lightfoot, who becomes managing director for Sequence Mortgage Services, having spent nine years with Sequence.

That’s it for this week. Do please keep in touch with your latest jobs news for the next edition of PJT. Until then…
