Agents Do Charity - and we’re back to school at last…

For many agents it’s been a big week…not because of the surge of buyers, but because their children have returned to school at last.

So it’s fitting that one of our heartwarming stories this week concerns two agencies that have helped out. We’ve other reports of great work, too, as the industry settles in to autumn and fund-raising ahead of the Christmas rush.

If you’re doing charity activities this autumn, please let us know on press@estateagenttoday.co.uk. In the meantime, quiet at the back there!

Local Schools: Two agencies have used technology to help soothe children's and parents' back-to-school nerves following five months away from the classroom.

Helmores of Crediton in Devon and Knightsbridge Estate Agents and Valuers, in Leicester, used the virtual tour software they use to sell and let homes to provide online tours.

Queen Elizabeth's School in Crediton and St John's Primary in Clarendon Park got to showcase their respective classrooms, corridors, and communal areas so pupils could have a sneak peek on their return.

Luke St Clair from Knightsbridge Estate Agents and Valuers says: "As a parent myself I understand the anxieties and concerns about returning to school. It's going to look very different, and this can cause more nervousness among children than usual.

"So, we decided to use our Matterport software and camera to map the school out in much the same way we would a property we are selling or renting."

Rob Stoyle of Helmores, adds: "If it soothes the nerves of just one child or parent it'll be worth doing, we're just proud to be able to support the community we serve."

Both agents are part of the Estate Agent Content Club which provided the PR for their school efforts for free as part of their community and charity project called The Karma Club.

Love Mud Challenge: Agents and suppliers are returning to the mud in four weeks’ time for the Agents Giving Love Mud Challenge powered by Nuclear Races, on October 4 at Brentwood, Essex.

Teams already entered for this outdoor challenge include last year’s winners Veco by Eurolink, Drivers & Norris, Paramount, JP Gardner & Associates and Loop Software.

In 2019 these entrants set the bar high – has your team got what it takes to take on the challenge of a 7km gritty and muddy obstacle race?

There are 40 obstacles and you choose how many your team take on. This is tough enough to be challenging but also achievable and great fun; the team spirit on the day is amazing. The kids can also take part in the Rookie Race which runs throughout the weekend.

Agents Giving chairman Michael Stoop says: “This highly competitive muddy challenge is returning for another year. Last year the teams from the property world went head to head tackling the challenging obstacles and they all triumphed. We look forward with excitement to October 4. Get signed up and let’s get this challenge started”.

Due to government restrictions there will be a reduced number of racers, smaller grouping areas, touchless check-in, temperature checks, obstacle sanitation, fewer obstacles, and face coverings for check-in.  A maximum of six can race together.

All fitness abilities can enter, minimum age is 13, fees are £250 per person which includes entry fees and your fundraising for Agents Giving to be completed by October 4.

Men In Sheds: Barratt Homes is backing the Bromsgrove-based Men in Sheds, with a further donation to its Shed Share Scheme.

Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest launched its annual Shed Share Sponsorship Scheme in 2018 to help support running and developing its much-valued group.

Men-In-Sheds, originally introduced to the UK by Age UK Cheshire in 2008, aims to tackle loneliness and social isolation in older men, where retirement can mean loss of status and contact. The Shed provides a space where anybody, including men or women, can work on DIY projects or furniture reclamation and get involved in some community spirit, whilst also having fun.

Tanya Silk, sales director of Barratt Homes West Midlands, says: “It's important we support and improve the surrounding communities in which we build, through collaborations with organisations and charities in the area.”
