Agents Do Charity - singing it out for good causes

If it’s Friday it’s our regular round-up of fund-raising by and involving the property industry, and it’s remarkable how much is still going on despite the challenges we all face.

If you’re fund-raising too, please get in touch - just email press@estateagenttoday.co.uk and we’ll do the rest.

Now, on with this week’s heroic work…

Women’s Aid: Key players in the property and construction industries have come together to back a campaign by London City Voices choir, raising funds to support survivors of domestic abuse.

Some 276 members of the London-based non-audition community choir released a video of You've Got A Friend to launch their fundraising appeal.

It’s been supported by Savills and Rightmove, and property firms Barratt Developments and Multiplex, bringing the current fundraising total to almost £31,000 for Women’s Aid.

Combined with money raised earlier in a fundraising campaign via the choir members’ friends, family and the general public, this brings the total to £73,000.

“The impact of Covid-19 is enormous and the knock on effects for so many members of the community are immeasurable.  We are very pleased to have been able to donate to charities, nominated by our staff, that they would particularly like to see supported at this time and this cause is very high on the agenda for us all” explains James Sparrow, chief executive of Savills UK.

And Rightmove’s chief executive, Peter Brooks-Johnson, adds:“Helping people find a happy home is at the heart of everything we strive for at Rightmove, but we know that the reality for some people is that home can be a frightening place. We wanted to help play a small part by supporting the vital work that Women’s Aid is doing and we look forward to helping spread the word about the home should be a haven campaign.”

Holding On Letting Go: Harrisons Residential agency at Sittingbourne in Kent has raised £820 for the local children’s bereavement charity, Holding On Letting Go by running an online raffle with prizes being donated by local businesses.

Agency managing director Chris Ellis says: “Everyone is supporting the NHS currently and rightly so, however, there are so many charities that go missed and this cause, to me, really hits home when kids come into it.”

Holding On Letting Go supports children and their families through the grieving process. One of the key ways that they provide support is via their monthly bereavement support weekends. Unfortunately, due to social distancing the charity has already had to cancel several weekends, meaning that they already have a backlog of the children already referred to them.

Chris ran a live draw on Facebook Live and the Harrisons Residential team has committed to donating £50 from every completed sale to the charity.

NHS Frontline Staff: Residential property expert Centrick is cutting sales fees for any NHS staff member by 50 per cent - and that’s indefinitely.

Having helped a number of NHS workers to secure tenancies during lockdown, through its Virtual Viewings, sales and lettings director Andy Butts says: “Nothing we do can ever show how much we are indebted to the NHS for its unwavering hard work and bravery during the current pandemic, but hopefully this gesture will go some way towards showing our gratitude and desire to give back to those who have tirelessly supported the rest of the country.”
