Furlough: agencies must register by end of today for April 30 payout

Today is the final day that agencies can register with the government scheme offering furlough pay on April 30.

The furlough programme - part of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme - means the government funds 80 per cent of workers' wages, up to £2,500 a month, if they are put on leave by their employers.

The programme runs until the end of June.

The minimum amount of time that an employee can be furloughed is three weeks.

To make a claim, agencies need to be registered for PAYE online and provide various details:

  • UK business bank account number and sort code;
  • employer PAYE scheme reference number;
  • the number of employees being furloughed;
  • each employee’s National Insurance number;
  • the start date and end dates of the claim;
  • amount claimed including employer NI contributions and employer minimum pension contributions;
  • contact details.

Agencies also need to provide either:

  • their name;
  • Corporation Tax and Self Assessment references;
  • company registration number.

For larger agencies putting over 100 staff into furlough, they must supply each employee’s:

  • full name;
  • NI number;
  • furlough start and end dates;
  • full amount claimed.

You have to be registered with the Government Gateway; once you are, the furlough portal link is here.
