Covid-inspired career change for independent estate agent

A reassessment of an independent agency’s activities during the Coronavirus crisis has led to it merging with a local franchise operation.

Maison Property in Warwickshire is joining with the local Fine & Country branch; Maison’s founder and owner, Sarah Garland, is becoming an F&C partner agent.

Based in Warwick, Garland has been in the property sector for the past 25 years: she started in a family home improvement company and then progressed to buying, renovating, and selling property as a small independent developer, while building up a portfolio of rental properties.

To diversify, Garland decided to become her own independent bespoke estate agent, initially starting with rentals and then sales.

“As the rental business grew to a level that I felt I could not offer my 100 per cent personal service I successfully sold my managed rental stock to another agency to focus on high-end and upper quartile sales” says Garland.

“During the Covid-19 crisis this year and after several discussions with Fine & Country, I decided that I had reached a barrier with my marketing and exposure for sales to achieve the next level successfully and needed more support to allow me to focus on sales without the pressures and cost of back office admin and marketing.”

Garland says the F&C business model is similar to one she has seen at first hand while working in Miami.

“As a single office or small business, it is not possible to have the funds to provide enough marketing required to truly be successful” she says.

The managing director of Fine & Country’s Leamington Spa branch, Jonathan Handford, says: “Sarah is a well-known and respected local estate agent with a passion for delivering exceptional service … We are very fortunate to have her flying the Fine & Country flag.”
