Tory tiff prompts gossip about yet another new Housing Minister

He’s a young and very wealthy up-and-coming MP in his 30s, a Cambridge graduate who also studied in the US and was a corporate lawyer before becoming a Member of Parliament.

She’s a former Cabinet minister in her 50s, a former foster child at Barnado’s, reading law in college at London and being involved in a family business before becoming a TV presenter.

He wants government housing policy to major on owner occupation but she wants to reinvigorate the idea of good quality council housing - and therein lies the conflict between Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick and Housing Minister Esther McVey.

Publications as diverse as The Times and Inside Housing have both reported on the apparent rift between the pair.

And the Daily Mail - fiercely loyal to the new government - says “there’s no love lost there” according to an unnamed source.

A Budget and spending review are both due on March - but a more substantial Cabinet reshuffle will be undertaken even sooner,  in February, according to Number 10.
