Rightmove to probe agency's status after allegations of fake listings

Rightmove says its data quality team is to conduct “a full review of the current customer” after an allegation about a fake agency listing dummy properties on the portal.

Estate Agent Today has received details of an allegation that an agency already banned from Rightmove, allegedly for breaching its terms and conditions, is actually being run by another company.

The accusation, passed on to Rightmove, is that the banned fake agency takes enquiries about properties on its own website - however, these properties are alleged to be dummy.

However, the details of the customer are then passed on to a ‘real’ estate agency.

One of the agencies is reported to be an online operation and the other a High Street agency.

EAT has passed the details to Rightmove; a spokeswoman told us last evening that: “Rightmove’s data quality team will be carrying out a full review of the current customer."
