One in eight planning to buy in next six months 'delay because of Brexit'

One in eight people buying or selling in the next six months say they will delay their plans because of Brexit and another 10 per cent have put the idea on hold altogether.

Another five per cent say they will try to conduct their purchase quickly before any Brexit deadline expires.

Meanwhile two thirds of the 2,000 homeowners questioned in the Legal & General Mortgage Club survey claim that they will carry on regardless with their plans for the next six months.

Younger owners are particularly likely to change their plans: 16 per cent of those who intended to purchase say they had delayed their decision compared to 11 per cent of those aged over 45.

When it came to differing opinions across the country, homeowners in London and the South East were the most likely to reconsider their plans, accounting for a third of those in the capital who were thinking about buying.

“We’ve heard plenty of predictions from commentators about the housing market, but these findings clearly show that homeowners are largely undeterred by the impact of current political uncertainty.” says Kevin Roberts of director of the club.

“The demand for property is still clearly there. There are so many reasons why people want to move and getting onto the property ladder itself remains a goal for thousands of young people across the UK” he adds.
