There may be lots of agents giving time this weekend to see England at the Rugby World Cup final and Lewis Hamilton almost certainly clinch his sixth world F1 driver’s title … but it seems there’s still time to do some great fund-raising too.
Get involved with this great agency community by telling us your charity work - just drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll do the rest.
Now, we’re all revved up and ready to go…
The Big City Sleepout: Julian Bishop, director of Bishop Sullivan in Brighton has kindly got in touch…he’s organising the second Big City Sleepout in the town on December 6, and hopes to triple last year’s terrific fund-raising total of £5,000 to £15,000.
“Being young and homeless is chaotic all year round. But being homeless when it is freezing cold, wet and the nights are so long is even tougher” he says.
“At The Big City Sleepout 2019, you will spend just one night sleeping outdoors on the i360 terrace in Brighton to raise money for our young people who have no choice.”
It’s a great cause, made more significant because it’s so close to Christmas; the JustGiving page is here.
Coastal West Sussex Mind: A Worthing-based estate agency chain celebrated its 35th birthday by hosting a black-tie ball to raise vital funds for Coastal West Sussex Mind.
The sold-out event, hosted by Jacobs Steel at the Worthing Dome, raised £9,292 for the mental health charity.
The auction lots included concert tickets for various acts at the O2, a signed Brighton & Hove Albion football shirt, a spa break, and a cooking class with MasterChef winner Kenny Tutt. All products and services were kindly donated by local businesses.
Pat Barton, managing director of Jacobs Steel, says: “After consulting our staff we decided to host an event that benefited a local charity. Most people know someone who has experienced mental health issues so Coastal West Sussex Mind was the obvious charity to support.”
And Matt Jacobs, another managing director of the agency, adds: “We were hoping to raise £5,000 so almost doubling that amount was an amazing feat. Thank you to everyone that attended, donated to and supported this great cause.”
Agents Giving Winter Coat Appeal: And just a reminder to agents about this… The industry’s own charity is repeating last winter’s hugely successful Winter Coat Appeal - then some 1,500 bags of unwanted coats were collected, and the hope is that winter 2019 will be even better.
Agents Giving charity chairman Michael Stoop says: “We always have a fantastic response with property agents and experts alike collecting coats for those in need. Most winter nights the temperature will drop below zero, and the vulnerable are in desperate need for insulation to keep warm, which is why we are continuing to push for agents to keep on collecting coats and donating now.”
As part of the drive Agents Giving will be asking their supporters to send tweets and images of their collections, companies including LCA Jobs, Thomas Morris Estate Agents, Chestertons, Embrace Mortgage Services, Paramount, CJ Hole, PropertymarkUK, and RAN have all joined in, collecting coats for charities including Calling London, Launchpad Reading, Wrap Up London, Trussell Trust Foodbanks and YMCA.
