The Minister for Digital and the Creative Industries, Margot James, has used social media to say she is “thrilled to see Purplebricks’ success” - and she plans to visit the hybrid agency’s HQ to see its operation for herself.
The praise came as a result of a series of tweets by Purplebricks’ global chief executive, Michael Bruce, praising James for a speech about digital innovation.
Bruce read details of her speech on The Times website and said on Twitter: “Spot on from digital minister Margot James [for saying] “The UK economy is dynamic…it has a constant spirit of entrepreneurialism which has defined our country and its people for hundred of years..”
He continued: “The UK is a nation that embraces and exemplifies innovators and entrepreneurs - [brother Kenny Bruce] and I can both testify to this. Pushing to improve digital skills and diversity of opportunity is vital in keeping the UK an attractive and exciting place to do business.”
One of Bruce’s tweets included Margot James’ Twitter address, meaning she could read it - and she responded enthusiastically saying: “Thanks Michael. I’ve been thrilled to see PB’s success!”
Michael Bruce then replied, inviting her to Purplebricks’ headquarters which is close to James’ constituency of Stourbridge in the Midlands.
“We would love to arrange a visit so we can show you how Purplebricks continues to innovate in the digital world” he wrote.
James then responded with her office email address through which a visit could be set up. “Sounds great Michael” she said.

The parliamentary minister you've insulted promotes and supports innovation and technological advancement. Hybrid agents have introduced honesty, integrity and transparency to the narrative of an industry that was for many years regarded as corrupt, dishonest and untrustworthy. You sound like a radicalised member of paranoid lynch mob; what does run them out mean? How do you intend to do that? Why can't you offer an informed opinion on a story instead of banging your head against the wall like a petulant child?
She's got more to think about this week than how some property listing company is getting on.

Anyway the success of Purplebricks is important to the government because, if agency fees fall they can get away with stealing, and it is stealing, an ever larger chunk of the transaction costs via Stamp Duty. If by “success” you mean serially misleading consumers and investors, admitting >450 counts of Anti money laundering breaches & being questioned on a number of consumer programmes then, yes, a ‘success’.

We have on a number of occasions requested that all Propertymark Regulated companies, excluding those that are purely involved in residential lettings, complete our AML & CTF Questionnaire; our records currently indicate that we have not received a Questionnaire from the aforementioned company.

Yet another Government Minister championing so-called entrepreneurs, the 'here today, gone tomorrow' brigade who take business off the High Street and away from the hardworking small businesses who's endeavours have always, and will always, support the British economy. Last time I checked, it was still a British company operating with estate agents contributing to the UK economy. Businesses evolve Laura; it started with mechanisation and the industrial revolution. Are you prepared to give up on Rightmove and Zoopla and take a step back to relying on newspapers to advertise 10 properties a week with a lead time of 10 days to print?

Sounds like they're having some kind of mutual love in. She's obviously so desperate for someone to say something positive about her that she got just a little 'unnecessary '. LOL.
She's thrilled? she cannot have spoken to anyone who has actually used them then, or dealt with them in any professional capacity. It's a nonsensical comment, but I guess to her their "success" proves her job title has some meaning. Another politician trying to justify their role in Government.
