The weather suggests that at long last winter has truly kicked in - so what better time to celebrate, amongst other things, good work by agents for the homeless?

Hope4: Estate agents will sleep rough to raise money and awareness for the only homeless charity in Rugby, West Midlands on Friday February 1.

Sam Funnell and Claire Heritage from Fine & Country Rugby will take part in their third sleep out, in association with The Fine & Country Foundation.

Claire says: “Homelessness is very close to our hearts. We have worked with Hope4 a lot over the years and seen how they have developed, expanded and continued to support our local homeless and vulnerable community.

“As much as the sleep out is always a challenge and we are expecting it to be very cold, we only have to endure this for one night which is nothing compared to what some people have to face night after night. It may be uncomfortable and we won’t get much sleep, but we believe that this is a small price to pay to raise awareness of this ever-worsening issue.”

The volunteers and staff at Hope4 make a huge difference to the community. Their holistic support combined with their determination enables Hope4 to provide services that has helped so many people across Rugby. From laundry facilities, hot food and clothing to night shelters and IT access. They endeavour to give guests another chance to get back on their feet.

The event is designed to raise awareness of homelessness, not to replicate the experience.

Leighton Buzzard Vandyke Upper School: A kind-hearted estate agent has shown that school days will always leave a special ‘Marc’ on your heart, as he sponsored new football kit for Vandyke Upper.

Marcus Feinhols, 23, who was born and bred in Leighton Buzzard, gave a special donation to his former school from his business Fine Homes Property.

The £500 he gifted to Vandyke Upper School has allowed its PE department to purchase new football kits for its school teams, and headteacher Tim Carroll was there to greet Marcus and express his gratitude.

Marcus, who founded his business in 2018 and runs it single-handedly, said: “Vandyke is a sports academy and I wanted to really give back. I loved my time there and sport was always a big part of it for me; it just felt like the right thing to do. “The staff were so grateful and everyone was really excited at the thought of playing matches in their new kit.”

Ochre: The owner of an estate agency is cycling across India with his wife for charity.

Glenn Flegg, 64, who owns Glenn Flegg and Co in Burnham High Street, is set to do ‘Cycle Rajasthan’, with wife Elaine, 65,

The couple will cycle more than 310 miles across the Rajasthan region in northern India this winter, taking in the Taj Mahal and the pink city of Jaipur.

The pair are aiming to raise £2,000 for oesophageal cancer charity Ochre in memory of their friend Mark Butterfield, who was at school with Glenn.

Glenn said: “Over the years when we have lost friends we have said to their families that we are going to do a charity challenge on their behalf.”

This will be Glenn and Elaine’s 12th charity challenge.
