Take that! High Street agency attacks online firms over 'issues'

One of the country’s best known regional traditional agencies, Pygott and Crone, has used a promotion in local news outlets to attack the level of service provided by online rivals.

On the Lincolnshire Live website - serving the county in which Pygott and Crone has 12 offices - the firm’s director, Kevin Scrupps, says good estate agency in the 21st century needs to be a mix of traditional and digital.

"Pygott and Crone recognise that clients want excellent service as standard, instant information, instant service and instant results as well as personal support and guidance ... I believe the agent of today has to offer all the mobile technological services but also provide great customer care and service” he says.

Scrupps says his firm aims to balance the demand for speed, efficiency, knowledge, support, advice and customer care.

“We believe that you need potential buyers registered to discuss properties with, many client buy something totally different to what they first look for, this is often due to professional local agents discussing how you can adapt a property, identify schools, services and much more. Viewings need to be qualified for client’s security and financial ability to buy needs to be understood” he adds.

But then he says the "issue" involving many online agencies is that they have no local office giving support, charge a fee even if they don’t sell the property “and charges are made if a client does not accept their solicitors and extras have to be paid.”

He adds that other issues often come in a chain involving online agents.

“Clients will choose the model/agent they prefer and choice is fantastic – however potential sellers should understand that there are very different levels of service which can affect the net price achieved“ claims Scrupps.

“To obtain the best price instruct the best estate agent, enquire about their sales success, after-sales support and fully understand any contract you enter into” he advises.

The demise of the on-line agent is on its way. I receive lots of feed back from clients that are completely devastated by the level of service they encountered using on-line agents, In our area they are consistently over valuing.

Chris really? Online estate agency is going to die? Get a grip this is wishful thinking.

I was on a viewing last Saturday and the viewer stated it was almost impossible to get Pink Blocks to return any of his calls. In the end he left a massage saying he wanted to make an offer and the local expert rang him immediately. You get what you pay for. And i agree they are overvaluing. Not by a couple of thousand but by 10's of thousands in many cases. The public will catch on eventually.
