Agency chief didn't pay fixed penalty notice - ends up with big fine

The director of an estate agency has been ordered to pay more that £1,800 for failing to dispose of waste properly.

Adebayo Badejo, of Top Move Estate Agents in Croydon, was ordered to pay the money after office waste from the premises was found outside the business during an early morning patrol in June 2017.

An investigation by Croydon council’s environmental enforcement team established the business had no documentation to prove it had legally disposed of commercial waste for the past two years.

A fixed penalty notice was issued but not paid, leading to Badejo appearing at Camberwell Green magistrates’ court.

He admitted one count of failing to comply - in his capacity as company director - with a notice under Section 34 of the Environmental Act 1990 requiring waste transfer documents be provided to the council in respect of the disposal of commercial waste from the business.

Badejo was ordered to pay a total of £1,830.00 for the breach.
