Countrywide puts 'restructuring and turnaround' expert on the board

Countrywide has announced the appointment of a new board member with “substantial restructuring and turnaround expertise.”

Mark Shuttleworth became a non-executive director of the troubled estate agency group this week; he also, from January 1, will be the chair of the company's Audit and Risk Committee.

A statement to shareholders yesterday afternoon said Shuttleworth had held various senior finance positions and most recently was Chief Financial Officer at both Pace PLC and Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company.

Peter Long, executive chairman of Countrywide, says in the statement: "I am delighted to welcome Mark to the Board of Countrywide plc.  He is a highly experienced and established finance leader with experience in public companies across the FTSE and Middle Eastern Exchanges.  Mark brings substantial restructuring and turnaround expertise".

How much does he cost? For Heavens sake are we estate agents too thick to know our own business to the extent we have to hire some bloke who's good with phones?
Won't make any difference, in two years he'll be gone. But I tell you what would make a difference, get that Board of directors out on the street talking to customers and listening to their staff or perhaps they need someone else to do that too?
