Another petition - this time calling for Help To Buy to be scrapped

Online petitions appear to be the flavour of the week - the latest is calling for the government’s Help to Buy initiative to be scrapped.

Yesterday we reported on a petition on Change.org claiming that Rightmove listed a high volume of over-priced and speculative homes for sale. Today’s petition, on the Petition.parliament site, says:

The UK government's funding of the Help to Buy scheme constitutes a fundamental misuse of public funds and fails to deliver the much needed affordable housing for the people of the UK. Property developers are profiteering at the nation's expense whilst failing to provide homes we so desperately need.

The petition has been created by an individual named Amanda Nwanosike and runs until mid-March. To last evening it had fewer than 700 signatories but if, eventually, it reaches 10,000 signatures the government will give a formal response; if it attract 100,000 names it may be considered for a parliamentary debate.
