Analysis of Rightmove data shows UK's slowest housing markets

An analysis of homes listed for sale on Rightmove has identified what one estate agency claims to be the slowest-moving local property markets in the UK.

They are Wolverhampton, Liverpool and Bradford according to the research conducted by online agency HouseSimple. it claims that over a quarter of properties in each of these cities have been on the market for longer than six months, and one in 10 homes for sale in Wolverhampton and Bradford have been on the market for at least a year.

The agency looked at Rightmove data and the length of time individual properties have been listed on the website, for 50 major UK towns and cities.

The figures revealed that 15 per cent of properties in Sunderland have been on the market for a year or more; in Newcastle it is some eight per cent of homes.

Seven of the 10 towns with the highest percentage of properties that haven’t sold after more than a year, are in the north of England. Only one town in the south – Bournemouth – is in the top 10 slowest-moving markets.

At the other end of the spectrum, there are no properties currently in Northampton on the market longer than 12 months and just 4.2 per cent have been advertised for six months or more.

The agency also claims that one particular property - a two-bed flat in Bolton - was first advertised on Rightmove in December 2008, well over eight years ago.

In London, some 14 per cent of properties have been on the market for six months or longer, with four boroughs registering over 20 per cent - Tower Hamlets, the City of Westminster, Southwark and Newham.
