Agents Do Charity - running, swimming and... er... eating rhubarb

Charity takes on many appearances and this section of Estate Agent Today treats all aspects of fund-raising equally - it all shows the generous face of our industry.

This week’s a good example of charitable diversity. You can join in by letting us know what good work your branch, company or individual is doing. Drop us a line at press@estateagenttoday.co.uk - and we’ll do the rest.

Now, let’s make a splash with the first of this week’s fund-raisers.

Rotary Swimathon: Mike Goddard, founder and chief executive of Belvoir, has taken time out of the board room to captain a team from the agency’s central office in a sponsored swimathon, raising over £500 for local good causes.

“The Rotary Swimathon is the biggest fundraising event in Grantham, which is the home town of Belvoir's central office” says Mike, a keen triathlete now training for the 2017 European and World Championships.

“Belvoir is always happy to support good causes on a local and national level, and this year we had an excellent team of five swimmers. I’m pleased to say that we were also joined by English Channel swimmer Greg Wood, an operations manager from Northwood, which is a franchise that is also owned by Belvoir” Mike explains.

“Team Belvoir successfully achieved over 191 laps in our one hour allocated time slot, raising over £500 in the process, which was fantastic.”

Cancer Research UK: Feeling in a good mood at the start of spring? Then follow our advice and sponsor Tara Norrington, lettings co-ordinator at north London agency Jeremy Leaf & Co.

Tara’s taking part in the 5k Supernova Run at the Stratford Olympic Park on April 1, as well as signing up to be a telephone volunteer with Independent Age.

“I've done 5k and 10k runs for Cancer Reesearch in the past but only ever walked them. I’m determined to train really hard this time and push myself to run the whole way! Please please sponser me - even just £1 - and help make a difference this year!” says Tara.

Rhubarb!: The Wakefield branch of Manning Stainton helped supply the fun at the city’s Festival of Food, Drink and Rhubarb.

The agency sponsored the Family Fun Zone at the 11th annual celebration of the event, where record numbers of visitors were treated to rhubarb themed activities.

“It’s a privilege to lend our support to this incredible event which showcases everything which is good about Wakefield and the surrounding areas. We were also thrilled to be one of the locations on the Rhubarb Trail and hand out goodie bags to people as they tracked down rhubarb characters, Rupert and Roxy” explains Chris Appleton, manager of the local Manning Stainton branch.

The agency supported the festival through its Community Support Programme which helps organisations and worthwhile causes within the communities in which it operates.
