Online agency ‘has approached Facebook to list properties’

Estate Agent Today understands that a high-profile online estate agency in the UK has approached Facebook with a view to operating a joint listings service.

No other details are available and the agency wishes to remain anonymous at this stage: Estate Agent Today has asked Facebook for its comments.

However, the development comes just as Facebook in the US has announced partnerships with two specific agencies to list properties on the FB Marketplace e-listing platform.

Facebook on both sides of the Atlantic currently allows private individuals to list their homes for sale or to let; however, in the US Facebook has now teamed up with agencies Apartment List and Zumper.

US online property news service Housingwire reports that via an app, users of Facebook Marketplace can access hundreds of thousands of homes to let.

Across the Atlantic, Facebook has made clear that it is developing a sophisticated search tool for the lettings sector - one which could easily be used if it entered into similar deals on the sales side.

This includes the ability to search by location, price, size, pet-friendliness and tenure; users complete a form on Facebook and then the agency contacts them directly.

“Marketplace is a popular place for people to look for a home to rent. Now that we’re adding listings from Apartment List and Zumper, people can search even more options in the U.S. to find a place to call home. First with vehicles and now with housing rentals, we’re partnering with businesses to bring more ease and convenience for consumers” Facebook US has told Housingwire.

The report adds that Facebook does does not charge to list inventory on Marketplace, but there may be fees for using a third-party listing partner.

In a message on the Facebook site, the company says: “Marketplace will continue to explore a variety of new opportunities to partner with businesses, in addition to optimizing the consumer-to-consumer product experience.”
