Happy Friday - the day when over 50% of homes change hands

More than 50 per cent of homes complete their formal transfers of ownership on Fridays according to a survey by a quick-sale company.

Sellhousefast has analysed Land Registry data for over one million homes sold in the UK in 2016; it found that over 40 per cent of the recorded transfers of property ownership were made on Fridays, with an analysis of this year’s data (up to the end of August) seeing that proportion rise to over 50 per cent.

In 2016 around 20 per cent of homes were transferred on Thursday, the second most popular day.

Next most popular after that was Wednesday, followed by Monday; Tuesday was the least popular weekday, accounting for around 11 per cent of transfers.

Surprisingly, there were some on the weekends too - although constituting a tiny percentage of the 2016 transfers, some 852 homes changed hands formally on Sundays and 877 on Saturdays, says the company.
