An estate agency has amended its website after being contacted by the Advertising Standards Authority following a complaint from a member of the public.
The Sheffield-based Hallam Hills agency had stated on its website that a property was an ‘Ideal First Buy To Let Investment’.
“The complainant, who considered they were highly unlikely to secure a buy to let mortgage as a first-time buyer for the property (it was designed and laid out to be for renting purposes), challenged whether it was misleading” an ASA spokesman told Estate Agent Today.
“We approached the advertiser with the concern that had been raised. It agreed not to use the claim again. On those grounds we considered the case resolved and closed it on an informal basis” he says.
Meanwhile another complainant to the ASA challenged whether a claim appearing on Taylor Wimpey’s website that stated an advertised property was located within the Peak District National Park was misleading and could be substantiated.
After the ASA approached the house builder “it acknowledged the error and corrected the ad so that it no longer stated that the development was within the Peak District National Park.”
