High-end agency Savills has launched a dedicated Sports Services team to offer what it calls “a confidential property service to the professional sporting elite, who seek discretion, exclusivity and a tailor made service.”
The team describes itself as offering the “first of its kind in the property industry” and will handle sports stars’ accommodation and investment activities ranging from UK and international sales and lettings, residential development, interior services, financing, commercial property and auctions.
Although the team has only just been publicly launched, in recent months Savills has been emphasising its credentials with sports stars.
Just before Christmas Trevor Kearney - one of the three men leading the new team - posted on the Savills website a blog giving the ‘wishlist’ of what sportsmen and women want in property. In November Stephen O’Kane - another of the team’s leaders - wrote a blog revealing that the agency had undertaken “a bespoke survey” of what world class athletes wanted.
“We established that football, tennis and golf professionals are the most active buyers, while the Caribbean, specifically Barbados and the Cayman Islands, has far reaching appeal across multiple sports” wrote O’Kane.
He went on to says property requirements for sports professionals can include helipads, running tracks, fitness centres, putting greens, seven-aside football pitches, games rooms with betting tables and slot machines as well as car and golf simulators.
