Ex-agent wins £1,000 'commission' by selling home on Facebook

A former estate agent is reported to have won £1,000 ‘commission’ from a seller - simply because she shared a sale-by-owner property listing on Facebook.

Gemma Sechatis, a mother of three who was formerly an estate agent, shared a post on the social media site, after it originated from property sellers Malin and Eunice Lobb of Plymouth.

The city’s local newspaper says the couple decided to advertise their home on Facebook rather than go down the traditional estate agency route, offering £1,000 to anyone else on the service who shared the post and led to a buyer being found.

“If you share this post and one of your FB friends sees the post and buys the place, then we will happily pay you £1,000 for being our virtual estate agent” posted the vendors, along with photographs of the property.

Sechatis is quoted as saying: “I saw the post on Facebook and some other people that I knew shared it as well. My husband and I would love to try selling on social media ourselves if we were in a position to. A friend of mine had just sold her property so I shared Malin’s post with her.”

The property - a converted chapel - was offered for £350,000 ONO; a friend of Sechatis viewed it and put in an offer which was accepted by the vendor.
