Zoopla quiet over agency defection to Rightmove

Zoopla says it has no comment to make on the decision of high-end London estate agency Chestertons to move from Zoopla to Rightmove.

The agency - which has 30 offices across the capital and is one of the founders of Agents’ Mutual - made an announcement yesterday.

It said to honour its OnTheMarket ‘only one other portal’ rule it would be dropping Zoopla “on amicable terms” as it was returning to Rightmove.

Chestertons chief executive Robert Bartlett is quoted as saying: “We had more and more of our clients telling us that they expected to see us on Rightmove and you have to listen to your clients.”

The agency - well known amongst its high-end clients for its annual polo tournament and more recently for offering Avios travel points for every pound paid in fees - describes itself on its website as “steeped in a long and distinguished history, serving the upmarket neighbourhoods of the London residential property market.”

Just nine months ago Chestertons announced it would drop Rightmove and stay with Zoopla - “an easy choice” as Bartlett put it at the time - and at that point the agency claimed it would work with Zoopla “in 2015 and beyond.”

Zoopla’s share price closed down 12.9 (5.02 per cent) at the end of trading yesterday.
