Country Life website to use OnTheMarket search facility

The website of Country Life, the iconic rural pursuits magazine, is using OnTheMarket to provide its property search tool.

The magazine - which this week has as its cover stories the threatened demise of a breed of terrier and a look at the Women’s Institute’s role in the rural economy - has long been used by high-end agents to advertise properties, typically with sellers having to pay specifically for the advertising.

“We've seen the tremendous success of OnTheMarket in attracting so many of the leading prime agents in the UK and we envisage the business continuing to grow. We see a major opportunity for our readers, for our website users, for our agent advertisers and for our business in providing a co-branded online search service” says County Life’s publishing director, Jean Christie.

Country Life started in 1897 and is now owned by Time Inc UK. Last year it was recognised by the Professional Publishers Association as Specialist Consumer Magazine of the Year.

“A recent issue of Country Life carried 53 pages of prime property advertising from agents and 52 of these pages were from members of OnTheMarket. It makes excellent commercial sense to build on the common interests of our two businesses” says OTM chief executive Ian Springett.

The OTM press release announcing the service repeated that, to date, the new portal has “more than 5,000 leading estate and letting agent offices” advertising and has “over five million visits a month.”

Wasn't long ago that a number of agents restrained marketing via the Trinity Newspaper Group. Country Life restraining non Agent Mutual ads from its portal cries out cartel.
