One estate agent on fraud charges, another banned from pubs

An estate agent has been charged by police with 16 counts of fraud.

Donald George Anthony Scott, 61, from Bolton Low Houses, near Wigton, is due to appear before magistrates in Carlisle on Tuesday, June 16. The Cumbrian News & Star website says the fraud charges relate to his business, Donald Scott Land & Estate Agents.

On the firm’s own website, it says Scott began work in 1970 as a junior auctioneer. It goes on to add that “Donald has become well know through out Cumbria within the land agency, estate agency and auction industry.”  In 2004 the Donald Scott company was founded.

No other details of the charges are available.

Meanwhile an estate agent has reportedly been banned from every pub in her home city after ‘glassing’ a mother of two in a nightclub. 

Naomi Eades, 24, who worked for Andrew Grant estate agency in Worcester, allegedly launched the glass at another woman, Gemma Bradley, 25. They had been staging a feud over the relationships with a man.  

Eades pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm but narrowly escaped jail - she was sentenced to nine months in prison but this was suspended for two years.

She was also given a rehabilitation requirement of 60 days with 300 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £500 compensation to Bradley as well as £535 towards costs.

Eades has also been banned from entering all licensed premises for a year by Worcester NightSafe, the umbrella body which represents the 53 licensed premises in the city.

    In both cases, it's a facepalm moment for estate agents all over the country. They have a bad enough reputation as it is - stories like this really don't help improve on that.

    Was Eades sacked by Andrew Grant? I can't believe she'd have kept her job after such a horrific attack.

    Again, the name of agents being dragged through the mud.

    Wonderful. More reasons for people to hate on estate agents. And in these two cases, they'd be absolutely right to.

    What is wrong with these people? Pathetic behaviour from these supposed professionals.

    Miss Eades was an office-based team assistant at Andrew Grant LLP. She is no longer in their employment. Andrew Grant LLP operate a zero tolerance regime for any staff member found behaving in an abusive manner.

    @Andrew Grant - fair enough, thanks for clearing that up. Completely the right decision. I feel sorry for you that your reputation will take a battering as a result of your association with Eades. I'm sure most people will be able to make the distinction between employer and employee, but unfortunately some will only read the headlines and form the wrong impression.

    Regulating letting agents is the needs of the day. I have seen a new letting agents, Moorland Property Services, established recently in Leeds who claim that they are the most professional letting agents. Regulations are must to distinguish good from bad and bad from worst.

    When will the Estate Agents/Estate Agencies of the UK move themselves into the20th Century and demand for themselves a regulated industry? Build a profession that creates and adds value to a real estate transaction instead of being despised by the general public. Agents who appear on Fraud charges or who are convicted and serving jail sentences are a threat to the public and if convicted, should no longer be able to represent a buyer or seller in any real estate transaction. Its time for the agents in the UK to aim higher. A regulated industry is a step towards creating a profession, earning public trust and providing value to the real estate transaction. Any person representing property to the public: Residential Sales, Residential Lettings, Commercial needs to have a valid license to work. No different than a Stock Broker or an Insurance Agent... Regulation = Licensing No license = no work... I'm proud to be a Realtor (TM).
