Estate agent denies rape charge

A 25 year old estate agent accused of raping a 53 year old woman after meeting her outside a nightclub has told police they had consensual sex.

The Norwich Evening News reports that Guy Hoffman told the police the woman was a “one night stand” and said he did not know her name until he was arrested on suspicion of raping her in August last year.

Ipswich Crown Court heard that Hoffman told police he and his cousin had met the woman in Bury St Edmunds, and had asked her for a lift home. He claims that on reaching  Hoffman’s house they went inside, chatted and engaged in consensual sex.

The newspaper says that the court heard Hoffman admit that “as bad as it sounds” he did not know her identity until he was arrested on suspicion of raping her.

The court heard an allegation that Hoffman slapped the woman, put his arm across her throat so hard she nearly passed out, and said: “I’m not a very nice person. I’ve got anger issues” before allegedly raping her.

It is also claimed that Hoffman and the woman met by accident again, some weeks after she had made her rape complaint to the police. Hoffman is claimed to have said on the later occasion: “You really need to drop the charges. If you don’t I don’t know what will happen to you.”

The newspaper reports that the pair had gone outside to talk and the woman had ended up giving Hoffman a lift home where she was allegedly raped by him on two further occasions.

The trial continues.
