Agency claims Purplebricks copied property details "word for word"

Estate agency EweMove claims that online operator PurpleBricks has copied a property description of a house “word for word” from one of its listings.

This is “a naughty breach of copyright” says Glenn Ackroyd, the EweMove boss who calls himself the firm’s Head Shepherd.

In a video on the EweMove website, Ackroyd praises the wording of the advert at first, before revealing that it is in fact copied from the EweMove sale details of a property on the same development.

To rub salt into the wound, Ackroyd says that while “we’re pleased that our help enabled the PurpleBricks seller to get a sale” there isn’t any reason for them to feel they have actually saved money because they used an online agency.

The reason? “Their house was marketed for £230,000 ... Ours sold for £260,000. The highest price on this development. So whilst the low cost ‘pay whether we sell or not’ fee may appear cheaper, our seller is around £27,000 better off after our fee” says Ackroyd.

He then shows on the video the two listings and what he calls “the proof of the pudding” - the higher £30,000 higher sale price for the EweMove property.

A PurpleBricks spokesman told Estate Agent Today yesterday that one of its area directors was looking into the matter.

is anyone else tired of these silly online agents mudslinging? What happened to professional collegiality?

Very well said SAA. Although I'm not sure what's worse, this or the portal mudslinging? I'm guessing it won't be long before Glenn pops up to tell you that EweMove are not an online agent....
