Who are you and what does it say on your business card?

I’m Simon Trippett – Partner at The Property Centre.

What services do you provide?

We are a market leading independent Estate Agent offering Sales, Lettings and Mortgage Services, with 10 offices across Gloucestershire and Worcestershire

What makes you different from other estate agents?

Our pro-active approach to all aspects of the job - we have 3 full-time professional Marketers in our Marketing department; 6 Sales Progressors and 10 Administrators covering all our offices; we provide continual training and development of our staff (out of 9 Branch Managers, 6 of them started with us as Trainee Negotiators) and our desire to be the best and offer exceptional customer service is second to none.

How can agents still open new branches in difficult conditions?

We are just about to open a second Worcester office and it was a simple decision. We have a huge presence in the area, a brilliant reputation and a fantastic Branch Manager who is champing at the bit.  It also really made sense geographically.  This will be the 3rd new office we’ve opened in 4 years and our other two were opened based on the same logic.

Is having a High Street presence still important for modern estate agents?

I would say it is imperative.  Seeing other great quality Agents continue to expand and open more offices is clear proof of this

In your experience, what is the key to running a successful estate agency branch?

Having an exceptional Branch Manager who’s an excellent coach, supported by an equally strong team.  Aside from this, success comes from ensuring you provide a great working environment, continuously training, developing, rewarding and recognizing all your staff.

What is your greatest achievement and what made it so special?

Becoming a Partner in the Company. I left a corporate agent to open up a brand new branch for The Property Centre in my hometown 15 years ago when everyone said it wouldn’t work.  I proved them wrong and the branch was a huge success. Since then I’ve worked my way up to become Partner in the company, responsible for all the Sales and Lettings Operations.  I also ran the London Marathon last year along with three of my colleagues, raising over £10,000 for local charities... that was pretty special too.

What is the most satisfying part of your job?

As a competitive soul, beating company records is always good, but most importantly it’s watching staff develop and move up the ladder.  It is extremely satisfying to take on a trainee and watch them gain experience,  knowledge and confidence over the years to the point where they are ready to take on their own office

What do you see as the biggest challenge facing the property market at the moment?

I really don’t think much has changed over the last few years. With the emergence of cheaper online agents, it’s ensuring you offer the best possible service and are working as hard as possible to get your vendors the best possible price and for a fair fee that is justified by the final result.

What is your property prediction for the remainder of 2019?

Business as normal – fingers crossed.

Country house or city apartment?

10 years ago, city apartment.. Now I’m getting on a bit it’s got to be the country house – I like my peace and quiet.

Trendy roof terrace or traditional English garden?

English garden

Would you rather be a free-moving tenant or settled owner occupier?

Settled owner occupier – although I can see benefits in both

What is your favourite room in your home?

I left school at 16 and trained to be a chef – I still love cooking now, so it’s got to be the kitchen

Homes under the Hammer or Location, Location, Location?

Don’t watch either - how about MasterChef?
