The north London and Home Counties estate agency Preston Bennett has been acquired by Hamptons International, one of Countrywide's high-end agency brands.

Preston Bennett specialises in high end properties in Stanmore, Bushey, Hatch End, Pinner, Watford, Radlett, Canons Park and Edgware, handling sales of existing and new-build homes as well as having a recently-enlarged planning, land and development services departments.

The deal comes on the back of Hamptons' oft-quoted ambition to expand its current 72 branches across London and southern England.

Hamptons International has expanded its network by 18 per cent over the past two years. The Preston Bennett acquisition will allow us to bridge the gap between offices in Hertfordshire & south Buckinghamshire and those in North London says Marc Goldberg, Hamptons' head of residential sales.

Hamptons has been increasingly promoted as Countrywide's high-end brand, allegedly to the annoyance of many in John D Wood, another Countrywide-owned agency which covers some of the same patches and similar-priced properties.

For example in a small Devon branch office of Countrywide's mid-market brand Fulfords is currently promoting its link with Hamptons - not with John D Wood nor Countrywide as a whole - in its shop windows, in a bid to woo instructions.
