Father Christmas had a surprise when he bungee-jumped in to telephone answering specialist Moneypenny - news that he brought with him up to 100 new jobs.

The firm currently answers around 1.2m telephone calls a year for over 850 estate and letting agent, but call volumes are increasing - up 21 per cent over 2014, the firm claims - requiring up to 100 new receptionists to be recruited in the new year.

To make the announcement, Santa plunged 170 feet from a giant crane (on a bungee rope, naturally, so as not to offend elf and safety). The leap was followed by Moneypenny receptionist Sian Woods, who made the plunge after Santa.

Based in Wrexham and New Zealand, Moneypenny now has almost 400 staff and its size is seen by some analysts as a barometer of the health of the housing market. It now handles around nine million calls a year for over 7,000 UK businesses - only a minority of them in the agency sector.

This sounds like a scenario from some bad Bond movie spoof.
