Zoopla picks up international portal award

Wednesday 2nd March 2011

British portal Zoopla has come top in a new awards scheme for property portals across the globe.

It won its section in Western Europe – so far, the only one where the winner has been announced by organisers Property Portal Watch, who say they are making the awards based on the level of innovation.

In its citation it says that Zoopla, since launching in January 2008, has managed to carve out a place among the top three portals in a market dominated by Rightmove.

“What stands out as particularly innovative about Zoopla is its aim to engage with home owners on a continuous basis,” says the citation.

“By listing every home in the UK, Zoopla can connect owners to local agents when they consider moving and provide targeted appraisal leads via its AskAnAgent tool, as well as provide applicant leads for existing inventory.”

In second place behind Zoopla is a Swedish site called booli, which offers users an estate agency guide displaying each agent’s market share, the number of listings, and its average listing price.

Rightmove, eat your heart out!

Rightmove must be laughing all the way to the bank if all its competitors are vying to be second best.

I suppose that is what some crap estate agents can say to their clients. Your home will be advertised in possibly the second busiest property portal because we can't afford Rightmove.

Well done zoopla. This award must be equivalent to the movie's Rotten Tomato award.

The cashburn of Zoopla having to buy these awards and ads must be worrying for their investors. It won't be long before they float it on the stock market fooling investors that it is the 'second biggest' web portal in UK.
